Bees, cattle, chickens, and changing seasons

Our apiary is part of a small working farm in Millfield. Wildflowers and native blossoms growing around the hives change throughout the year.

As the flowers change, so does the honey. One batch might look or taste a little different from the last. Ask us what we have available before you come by.

What is raw honey?

We lightly filter our honey, so you might notice a little beeswax or other fine particles at the top of your jar. That is normal. You can skim them off if you prefer. The colour and flavour will vary a little with each harvest.

A strong managed colony can reach this range when weather, queen health, food, and space are favourable.

Usually 1 queen

The queen is the colony's main egg-layer. Her pheromones help hold the colony together, although short overlaps can happen during queen replacement.

Nectar, concentrated

Bees reduce nectar moisture and seal ripe honey under wax cappings for later use.
